I recall seeing the movie back in the '80's... and keep trying to track it down.
It appears blockbuster has it now, so I may try and see if it available on Netflix too:)

you tease sir. i looked on blockbuster and got this:
"We're sorry, this movie is not available for rent by mail."
I'd completely forgotten about this. I saw part of it on cable probably 10 years ago. To the best of my knowledge, never released on VHS or DVD. Probably the finest film ever made, a c1er paddles a prohibited stretch of river and Catherine Bach (yeah that's right, THE Daisy Duke) follows him into the river in a white dress that gets pretty darn translucent when she's wet....
If anyone has a copy, please let us know!

I have been trying to locate a copy for years. It even had bad guys who wore all black paddling gear!

I've seen it on cable twice.
The opening footage is absolutely gorgeous. A very good paddler floating the Kern river I think in a Hahn C1.
Once they start talking it's awful but yeah, the paddling chase scene near the end is pretty stupid funny and the bad guys paddle black kayaks.

Gotta love the part where he escapes the wicked river wide net meant to ensnare him by rolling as he comes up to it. Would a kayaker have been snared by that pesky spare blade?

I see Catherine Bach got top billing at the start of the movie in front of James Brolin who was the protagonist/hero? LOL!

Not trying to jack the thread, but I've been on the search for any or all of the early Wayne Gentry paddle porn like Vertical Addiction, etc. This was all early Cumberland Plateau stuff before the days of the Paddlesnake boys. Anybody willing to burn me a copy?

Sounds like the quest for multiple copies of the movie will be a New Year's Resolution for the new year. Maybe we should start a fund or a reward for the person that can secure and deliver.
Ahhhh Daisy Duke- the good Ole Days- the formative years of what a fine boat should be...

Who were the actual "paddlers" ?
I hadn't seen this since... forever.

James Brolin was the main C-stud, starts the movie with the world's longest seal launch ending in a spectacular plunge off a cliff.
I hadn't thought of this movie in forever.

I can only tell you how to find out. Doug Ritchie, California boater who is still active in the wildwater racing world, was a stunt double for one of the "bad guy" kayakers. So was his brother, I believe. I can not remember the paddlers who were the doubles for the main characters (this thing was made in 1982, I believe) but Doug will know. If you post on the "Wildwater" Yahoo group, you will find Doug; see
http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/wildwater/
Sorry that I do not have a direct e-mail address for you.
If I remember correctly, during part of one of the chase scenes, the hero paddles through a narrow chute with bushes on either side and leaves his paddle wedged in the bushes so that it forms a "trip line" about two feet above the water. One of the bad guys then comes through the chute and crashes into the wedged paddle, ending his part in the chase. Classic Hollywood . . .
