I go paddling with kayakers nearly all the time because most of my buddies are kayakers, I don't stick it too them much and they don't stick it to me much either, we just enjoy riding the river together. It's like when we go on the snow, some snowboard, others ski and a few ride teles, variety is the spice of life.
But this I don't understand, and I have plenty of canoeing buddies and teach ww caneoing as a job.
when oc's flipp they swim, the boats are hard to rescue and the amount of time it takes can be a trip killer.
Yeah many paddlers can't roll their canoes BUT hard to rescue are you kidding me, just flip the sucker over, job done. Trying to pull a kayak without airbags out of river, that is hard to rescue, canoes they are a breeze in comparison.

david is right. character is much more important than craft.
I'd rather boat with a fun kayaker than a lame OBer(kayaker must have thick skin). Outside of that...on Class V, I'm boating with whoever has the skills, and type of character, that I feel they would save my arse if it came down to it.
There's not a ton of people that would risk their own life out of principle to save anothers. Those are the type of people you want to boat the gnar with.
Let's all hug at least one kayaker on every river trip. Twice if they're good looking. If we all do this, it will go a long way to changing whatever reputation canoeists might have.

Hmmm. I'm not sure I like the direction this "change of reputation" could go in.
Go boat, get better, paddle with other boaters (whatever boat they are in--except the S-O-T'ers, and S-U-P'ers, and tour'ers and rec'ers ). Get seen, get known, know the other boaters, have fun. Could that help attitude?
