I am looking at a cheap one for sale nearby, saw some reviews here on the museum. Looks like a good option but just wondering if anybody would have more comments on it, or other conversions suggestions.

So basically I am not willing to spend the $ for a brand new design but still would like something shorter, wider and more modern of a playboat than my old perception amp.

I am 165lbs 6 feet, looking for a playboat that could still be ok on some river running, a full-on playboat would be ok but some extra lenght would be ok too...

take a good look at the cockpit size on the riot boats. they often have cockpits that too small to make for a comfortable conversion. i converted a booster 55 that i ended up turning back into a kayak and selling cuz i couldn't get comftable in the thing.

that said i've got a buddy who paddled a disco conversion for a while and he tore it up in that thing.....

dont know about a C-1 .. but WetNobby probably could tell you alot about the boat .... from the thread i linked it looks like he set it up as a C-1 to start and then made it into an OC-1

As an update to whoever it might be of interest: a did get a used cheap astro 58 in my garage last WE and it is going right back to its owner soon.

I heard some other people have been seting this boat up as a C1 but for me it was a no go.

Weirdest outfit setting I ever saw, seems like everything was tought of to make it difficult to switch to C1. A molded-in screw set was right were my feet would have laid, some extra holes right on the bottom (genius) were metal threaded and hard to patch but finally the cockpit is what truly killed the deal. Soooo tiny. And low upfront. I am only 165lbs but 6 feet tall and even after cuting out these plastic knee anchors pointing inside the cockpit I am pretty sure I couldn't have fitted in there, and couldn't have reset the K1 outfit back in.

Too bad: price was good and boat looked a nice shape too... Now it looks like I might be throwing the $ in for a brand new hull... Nemesis maybe.
