It is FINALLY up! Last winter I co-designed with Pete Hornbeck of Hornbeck boats two kids ultralight flatwater canoes. The 8'er (which Pete deserves primary credit for) is the better received boat so far (need to find some lighter / shorter kids for the 7'er)

Was great to design some boats my daughter will be in in a few years:)

Very nice! Kudos! Kind of makes me think of the old Blackhawk small paddlers canoe.

Awesome Adam! Good to hear and see there are some other options to get kids in the sport.

I must, however, take issue with the two pictures w/ double blades... I'm sure you had nothing to do with this...but it should be dealt with

Pete believe in double-bladed canoeing... and for some folks it gets them on the water where they otherwise wouldn't, I'm all for that.

Personally I prefer one blade. Two just confuse me

I've already made my daughter two paddles to play with while we paddle... single sticks, of course.

10 pounds... ouch! LOL Nice - having a light boat for back country work is a major plus! Better if the kids can paddle their own!

I have the hull of a 7'er sitting in the garage - I laid it up before Christmas, and want to have it done by her birthday (April). Of course, she'll only be 2.... I suspect it will come in under 10 lbs when I'm done, but time will tell.

They are both super sweet little boats, and just like the Splash it is amazing to see how much more comfortable kids are in boats that fit them!

Would cheaper lay-ups be available? Some folks might find that pricey for a kid's boat.

All the pricing is left up to Pete. I do agree with him that it makes sense to only sell it as a package (that is the package price I believe), so kids have the right size paddle and life vest too. Last time I was over over there they had actually planned a buy-back program that was prorated for years and condition - so once your kids grew out of it you could sell / trade it back. For the details you've got to contact them though - kind of like Craig with Esquif, on this one I'm just the designer (or co-designer in my case), and all the build and sale details are up to Pete, Simon, Chad, and crew.

I don't think 10lbs adults make up a large enough market share to make it financially viable.

I was initially worried you'd built and OC squirt boat.

This has been the temporary solution until he learns hold the paddle correctly. Paddle length has been corrected. He has paddled circles around a few kayaks in the pool I have high hopes that one of the new Blackfly canoes may work well for both of us. Why can't someone please come up with a fairly inexpensive plastic canoe for kids??? Sporting goods stores sell a small plastic sit on top kayak for under $300. It's really hard to justify $1000+ for a canoe he is going to outgrow quickly.
