I started playing polo this winter in my Taureau and wow i wonder why i did not start playing years ago. It is a great workout and develops so many skills- balance, reaction, rolling, reading the play etc. It is as close to whitewater indoors as you can get. Every length of the pool is different- your oppositions boats are rocks and waves in one- you hve to get around em and you have to watch they dont flip you.
Anyone else playing polo in small boat or c-1? If you have the possibility near you I would highly recomend it.

I play each winter, almost every Tues from Oct-May. I've played in a kayak, but for the last year I've been in a canoe exclusive to play it. My CSquirt is actually the best boat for polo that I've found, my C-1 Blunt a close second. I've played in the Zoom, Lege, Blackfly, Orbit Fish C-1... In short, I end up having some advantage over the buttboaters as I can reach higher for being goalie and I'm quicker over short distances so I get out front to the ball faster.
It is a ton of fun, a great workout and helps make your pool roll a combat roll while in the pool.. We play hard and rough.

We have it here in N CO. Local kayaker named Marty got it started. He was on national K. Polo team for N. Zealand so he's pretty darned good. Some locals were quick studys with him so there is always good competition here. I agree that it's a great workout and intense. Maybe sometimes too intense! One year a fight broke out after a particularly enthusiastic scrum. No damage though and overall, everyone is really cool.
Bummer is that here, C-1s and OC-1s are a no no. I also played in a butt boat to get in there. Few years ago they changed the rules again and you can only play in club polo kayaks, not your own boats. I was a little big for club boats and too uncomfortable so I stopped going. But if you can get in anywhere and check it out, I'd definately recommend it.
