I bought one of the Mobile adventure Prelude hulls That was for sale on this site a couple of weeks ago. I have it outfitted but the D rings wont stay glued to the hull. I tried vinabond and it did not work. I was told that vinabond won't work on that type of plastic.Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks

Bulkhead. make your own, it's not difficult at all. Just glue some more foam to the saddle in front of you and shape away till you're confortable and snug. Post some pictures of your current saddle and we'll walk you through it.
Sounds like you're trying to use thigh straps or lapbelt. It's not gonna work.

Its funny that you posted this today...I just put mine in yesterday. I bought the other hull. I sanded both the hull and the patch(Just enough to put a little texture on it) and then just put 2 coats of Weldwood Gel on them and it seems to be good to go. I may be jumping the gun but i think it worked. That was for the hip attachment point, for the crotch i pushed a pvc pipe through my bulkhead pillar and into my saddle on that i just passed a rope loop to attach to. Im trying to get some pictures of it up.
Ive never really paddled an open boat before so it has all just been trial by fire on everything, and i mean everything. I had no clue how to use rivet gun, install thwarts, lacing, none of it. I think it actually worked out really well.

Griffen - try that out in a pool a couple of times, better yet get out on a warm day but not far from the car - I reaally don't think weldwood will hold for a high stress job. It never worked for me. Goop might (its working in my Zephyr). I'd recommend a bolt for your hip anchor or go bulkhead.

I have a bulked too but I have a tendency to come up off the saddle when I was practicing my newly found Oct roll. Really it may turn into a lap belt instead ill just have to wait and see[/u][/list]

According to Gougeon Brothers, West System G-flex epoxy will bond to just about any plastic except polypropylene:

10-4 - that was my issue in the Spanish Fly and I augmented the bulkhead with a set of straps - I think there is a picture in my gallery below. I used bolts, though. I don't always use the straps - they do add that last little bit of snugness, but really slow entry (and somewhat slow exit). When I am rolling I make a point to roll a few times with just the bulkhead.

For D-rings, I have never had contact cement or VynaBond or MondoBond work as a permanent fix. I have never had G-Flex fail as a permanent fix.

If you need a bulkhead AND straps to roll, then you need to redo your bulkhead....

Griffen- Come on man, post some pics already!
Hope those old shells make someone a good boat. I know I was considering jumping on one when they were listed for sale.
In my ledge, I use the rear thwart and the water flow tube between knees as anchors points for the straps. Works well for me.
I have pics of that setup posted in my "Ledge and Backfly Stuff" monster thread. Check it out

Thanks for the help. I am going to try the epoxy first and if that does not work I will go with the bulkhead. See if this link gets you to some pics.

If it is a polyethylene boat, clean it well with isopropyl alcohol first, and (after letting the alcohol evaporate thoroughly so as to avoid "boat flambe") pass the flame of a propane torch over the surface a few times to oxidize it before applying the G-flex.
