I recently bought an Esquif Detonator. It is missing the the saddle so I either need to build one or buy one. I want to go with the saddle/bulkhead combination (Beluga Saddle?) Did these boats come factory with this type of saddle? Where can I buy one? I am having a hard time finding info about this online

You can buy from Beluga directly(Boreal Design), I'm sure Esquif could sale you one and there is an other one, I don't remember who, but some one here, on the forum, that makes them, and they are suposed to be the cat's butt in way of bulk head!

Thanks, I checked there website but still can 't find the saddle anywhere. I will try to call Esquif next week and see what they can do.

I believe you are talking about Bob Britt's Saddles. Definitely the Bee's Knees in terms of bulkhead outfitting.

Warning! Once you have one of these saddles all others will suck to the point that you won't want to paddle a boat without one.

They are very nice looking. My dream would be to buy an old beater with one installed. Pull it out and sell the shell.

BTW, I've seen Bobs work and it is indeed the finest available.

I have gone 3 River trips on a single charge, without fail, I would bet you could play all day on a single charge.
I usually Charge Mine every other trip down river.

Curious as to what's the big difference in the saddles? Buying one on spec is kinda hard when the shipping here would probably be $200. But I do have foam and a saw and some glue. They look nice.

Yukon, I have working wayyyyy to hard on this saddle design to just send you the plans if that's what you are hinting at but i will say that you can figure out a lot about what improvements I have made just by looking at the pictures, I will say that the Esquif and Beluga saddles work fine for taller folks, I'm short and really designed this Bulkhead to work for shorter folks like me, but to my surprise some of the taller than me folks find them quite comfortable and secure.

No Bob dont want free reign on your design, just curious as the main differences.
Years ago I bought a Beluga Alpollosa Saddle on spec and was not that happy with it, mind you I am now finally getting used to a bulkhead over thigh straps.
I can appreciate the hard work that goes into a saddle like yours.

Things would be much easier if I could jump in one and try it out. We are all different sizes and shapes. I did just order 3 buns of foam sliced to all different thickness. If I would had to pay for shipping that would have been as much as the foam itself. I have a couple of ideas that I am working on- the biggest is to make a saddle that is very adjustable and will work for a wide range of students as I think that is the one area that has been lacking in saddle design. It would be a big benifit to manufactures of boats to have a very universal fitting saddle.

Keep up with the creativity as it benefits the open boating world as a whole
