A better question: What boat do you paddle 90% of the time

Boat lists are interesting, whether lifetime or current, but the truth is, most of my boats (12 at last count) sit in my garage waiting for the rare time when I paddle tandem, go solo tripping, teach, or paddle a club outing on moving water. A few of the old solos get loaned out to beginners. Overall, I'm amazingly loyal to whatever boat is my current favorite. For the last three years that's been an Esquif Prelude. On a couple of day trips recently, I lent the Prelude to my wife so she could see whether she wanted one. This put me in a Phantom, my former favorite boat. I didn't like going back--the Prelude has enough superior handling characteristics, that it was obvious why I had retired it. As for my wife, she now has her own Prelude. This is the first time we've both has the exact same solo canoe. I'm now repairing her old Ocoee. It wll be interesting to see if she goes back to it. It was her favorite boat (paddled 90% of the time) for about 5 years.

L'Edge (maybe not 90% but I do probably paddle it 75% of the time)

Outrage, transitioning to Ocoee.

I agree - there tends to be one boat that gets the bulk of the use, the others for special occasions/circumstances. I'll dust of my Vertige X for the upcoming slalom race, and I'm still mad at my C-1s.

Depends on the river and level and who I'm boat'n with. I love the Sith (prior two weekends) but like to get out in other boats too. Last weekend it was in Slalom C1, K1, OC1 and a shredder. I know I'll be in the shredder again this weekend and mayber the Slalom OC1 - too much fun. Another reason one needs more than one boat. :-)

Paul, I've paddled with you only a half dozen times, but I don't think I've ever seen you in the same boat twice!

C1 when the temperature is below 50F. Above that temperature, it's mostly my slalom OC1 unless the water level is really low, where I use my Spark. Roughly 30%/45%/25% distributed use over the course of the year.

i bet i get at least 90% of my time in my prijon hercules conversion.

of course, if i remember way back to math class, you can't have 90% of zero.......

starting a business really cuts into the paddling time....
