Upper Yough still at risk - The Saga Continues

Post by PAC »

Per Charlie Walbridge on 10/Oct/2011

Upper Yough Paddlers had a good meeting in Friendsville last week, but the battle isn't over! The Cove Landowners are mobilizing!

Paddlers need to attend the next Deep Creek Policy and Review Board (PRB) Meeting at 6:00 pm on Monday, October 24, 2011 in the Discovery Center at Deep Creek Lake State Park. Jess Whittemore remembers a meeting two years ago when MDE head John Grace's announced his decision to maintain the current release schedule. 40+ cove property owners at a PRB chanted for whitewater's demise! Help him out! If you're in the area, please try to attend. Get there early so we can fill as many seats as we can up front.

We still need letters to the Garrett County Republican and local politicians! If you write one, many thanks. If not,

Write the editor of the Garrett County Republican at newsroom@therepublicannews.com supporting their editorial.

Good letters to the editor are 300-400 words and focus on your personal experience. If you travel to the Upper Yough from afar, tell them how often and how much it means to you. If you are a Garrett County property owner your thoughts are particularly important. Tell them how the river impacted your decision to buy real estate nearby.

Next, send copies of your letter to these local officials:

George Edwards, Garrett County State Senator: george.edwards@senate.state.md.us
Wendell Beitzel,, Garrett County State Representative: wendell.beitzel@house.state.md.us
Bob Gatto, County Commissioner: bgatto@garrettcounty.org
Nicole Christian, Garret County Chamber of Commerce CEO: nicole@garrettchamber.com

Your letters make a difference! Tell these people what the river means to you. Tell them where your home is, and how often you visit. If you live nearby, explain how the river influenced your choice of places to live. If you own, rent, or are looking for property in Garrett County or patronize local businesses, say so. Don't delay. The editorial deadline at the Republican is Wednesday at 5:00 PM.

Best,

Paul,

I sent a blanket e-mail to the above. The senator's e-mail came back to me undeliverable. I got a response from Garrett County stating they basically agree with the boaters on this one. Interesting.
