roof racks & tandem canoes

Post by acc »

Two questions:
(1.) any suggestions re tandem canoes comparable to the Caption that would also be capable of solo use?
Any past experience in other models appreciated. Am looking for good condition, used tandem. What should I be looking for?

(2.) had to go from a 2002 Dodge Ram to 2011. Old Yakima clips will not work on new truck roof. Yakima is on their ear re updating info for newer vehicles. Anyone had any experience making a change along this line? I do not want to switch to Thule & do not want to go to roof track system.

Please forward help/info to thecloses@yahoo.com

Thank-you

I've got a Probe 14 with a triple saddle - paddles nice solo and tandem. Picked mine up very gently used for $1000 with airbags.

I had a Caption and a Mohawk Probe 14 and liked the Probe better. I'm not a big fan of the triple saddle as there is no back support in the center position. When I paddle it solo I use the stern seat. The XL 14 and 15 would also be options. They have significantly less rocker than the Probe and Caption, but are still capable whitewater boats. Esquif Makes the Blast (a little smaller) and the Vertige X which is similar to the Caption and Probe. The Wenonah Rogue and Old Town Appalachian are also possiblilties.

My experience is that its hard to find a used canoe in decent condition, though it can be done if you're patient and a little lucky. (that's how I found my Caption) The Probe was ordered from the factory, set up and ready to go. I've had it since 2004 and have been pleased with it other than the triple saddle. If I did it over I'd just have 2 single saddles mounted.

Hey Matt, good to hear from you. I hope you & your dad are going to ALF.
Can you send picture(s), & what is weight? I will have to look up for more stats as am not familiar with it.
What are you asking?
Please give my regards to your dad.
Allen

And thanks to drrpm for the input; very helpful.

Sorry.....I'm holding on to the Caption, though I may need to get some assistance on adding more serious WW outfitting.

Tommy and I plan to do the UY in it one warm summer day.

Right, Tommy?
