Aloisius--
No amount of outfitting or reinforcement will allow the boat to continuously perform with you and / or T.H. McGnarlz in it.
I witnessed a tandem crew run their Caption off of the falls at Ohiopyle one year and they tore most of their outfitting out upon impact. It isn't by accident that St. Pete and I don't do the falls in our Caption.
That being said, buy individual saddles and setup your own strap system. St. Pete and I made all of outfitting; saddles from laminated foam (with a bandsaw,) D-rings from rutabaga.com and 2" non-tubular and tubular webbing. Strongly suggest a center bag and lace the heck out of it. Losing the bags out through sparse caging cannot be overcome even by the pumps you sissies put in your boats. Especially if you want to run the UY or LBS. I also want to stress the need for a thwart at the back of each saddle fur support and to help keep it in the boat. The Mike Yee pedestals by themselves never seemed to stay in the old Caption when St. Pete and I were being aggressive, so thwarts needed to be added, and that made a huge difference.
I invite you to try out our Caption with our outfitting this spring somewhere with a partner that passes inspection--I think you know why.
I will try to take pictures of outfitting to send to you if I can wrestle the boat off of the rack.

put a third thwart in the middle and you could set up a double bulkhead. i paddled a caption once last year set up this way and loved it.

if it doesn't have a center thwart and you aren't using a triple saddle... add one.
this pretty much goes for any tandem boat... they're just too floppy without.

Me thinks straps would work better if there are gonna be different bowmen and bow women (my daughters, e.g.)paddling partners. Bulkheads may be too specific for the paddler.
Footpegs for sure, right?

Re: Caption outfitting for Class III and up
Can any of you give me some info on outfitting a tandem WW canoe? Am fairly new to this & some of language/terms used am not familiar with. I am not sure I want a triple saddle due to weight factor. Other than using it for solo also, is there any advantage? The boat in question will be used primarily for tandem paddling. Currently it has paddling thwarts. And, where is best place to procure saddles etc? Any other suggestions appreciated.
Re: Caption outfitting for Class III and up
I have a triple saddle in my OC2. The center position is not very useful since there is no back support. Weight is not a big issue as the difference is only a couple pounds out of the 80 or so it weighs fully rigged. You can check the Mohawk website for info on their outfitting. Harmony sells canoe outfitting too. The money adds up fast, but if you're patient and keep an eye out you may be able to find a used OC2 already outfitted for not much more than the outfitting would cost new. Another possiblity would to find a canoe with a trashed hull and servicable outfitting that could be scavenged.
Re: Caption outfitting for Class III and up
Lots of good info here (if I can decipher some of the jargon . Pictures would help immensely, & any details re type/installing hardware that would be good for center bag. Thanks
Re: Caption outfitting for Class III and up
Most people I know who have a Caption or Blast and want the option to paddle it solo or tandem use the velcro systems ... see: http://www.northwater.com/html/products ... addle.html
This makes it easy to adjust to different weights of paddlers as well. Total flexibility.
