"The Year of the Rave" - Cboats Armada

Post by FullGnarlzOC »

Yes - it is true. There was a rave going on at the take-out of the Cheat/Lower Big Sandy.... You could hear it from 100s of yards away comin down the river. Soo... Friday night - I decided to leave Teters, and partake in the gnarlyness.

This was my first Armada, so I don't have much to compare to - but I would say it was great turnout and a very fun weekend. I wish I had gotten more footage of everything. I put this little edit together, messing around with some effects to some DJ Tiesto - in dedication to the rave.

Hopefully more people can post some pictures.

Found this pic - taken by a rave girl of Alex, Big Al, MarkZ, and Colin - 'canoe dancing' to techno.

And don't forget the "furries" that were there.

(for those who don't know, this a one of our planet's sub-cultures:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Furry_fandom" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)

they were weird but harmless...certainly a lot less harmless that the locals driving their atv's and dirtbikes, high on meth, packing heat and blowing up things with m-80's.

There were 3 stages with huge speakers and gen sets. The MD based promoter said he had hoped for 1500 and to pull in $15k, but I bet there were only a couple of hundred, maybe due to weather? ...a loss, for sure.

Once the DJ asked us dancin "kayakers" to come closer to the stage, that's when we ended our dosey-doeing.

I agree. It's the best I've ever seen.

Great footage.

In the picture posted above, what kind of paddle and what is on the shaft for protection?

That is a Bailey Stick, aka Clinch River Paddle. I think that is the one Alex broke and had to have repaired.

Well, it's a good looking stick!

It almost looks like some kind of cord wrapped on the shaft.

Thanks guys. I loved jammin' to the songs over and over as I edited. That rave had me fire up

Let it be known - there was only 1 Cboater that left Teters campground to partake in the rave - alll night 8) And I was back to Put-in by 8am the next morning :) :) ..... even though I paddled the narrows.

Anybody get any stills/footage of Saturday's canyon run? I thought I saw a few cameras out at the various playspots...
