Need so outfitting help

Post by Collard Green »

Hey everybody,
I am installing some brand new Mike Yee outfitting in my new to me dagger rival. I need to trace all of my anchor points and pedestal but first I need to have a reference point. Mike Yee demo page says that the front edge of the back rest on the pedestal should measure 7" from the center of the boat on symmetrical boats...

problem is...the Rival is asymmetrical. Anyone know the proper spacing to place the pedestal so that I can use it as a reference for all my anchor points and knee pads?????? Thanks so much --Adam

I haven't used the Mike Yee outfitting specifically, but the advice on seat position I've often read here is to actually get out on some flat water and move the seat around until the boat is trim. Then mark the position and glue it down. It helps to have someone on shore to spot you.

I was actually doing this just yesterday (in the process of outfitting a L'edge hull). Both, a level, and my wife's observations, confirmed that my seat needed to be further forward than where they normally put it from the factory. Not a huge difference, but it's nice to have it customized to me. (It could have something to do with the idiosyncrasies of how I shaped the bulkehead).

Oh, and if you go this route, take the knee pads with you, because their height will affect your posture on the pedestal.

If you can't have a spotter to watch from shore you can do this; Take your boat with saddle unatatched, a pencil, and a bailer down to the shore of any small body of water big enough to float in. Put saddle roughly where you think it should be. Kneel on saddle while floating in canoe. Use bailer to put a gallon or so of water in boat. Move saddle back and forth/side to side until it is centered in the small puddle in the boat. Mark this spot, this is where saddle goes. The rest of the Mike Yee instructions will be easy from there

The boat is asymetrical. The inside edge of the backrest should be 11" behind center. I used to outfit boats for Mikey.
