Hi Paddlers
Since the weather is gettin' cold, I'm sure you're all looking to re-cert your first aid... check out this weeks comic first.
Here is a cool place to view it from:

Duct tape really is good on wounds. Better than regular bandages, according to some.

Explain to me why you quote a 1000 pound capacity for the Expedition.

We have a 16' 10", 34.5" wide, 16 inch deep Bluewater Chippewa, and the company rated the capacity at under 600 pounds.

???? No one on here works for composite creations, AFAIK. Beyond that, width and depth don't really tell you much about weight capacity. At the very least, you would want to know how much freeboard you have at the spec'ed weights.

Yeah, agree with Shep.
Mad River, Old Town, and others list similar weight capacities for that size canoe...but they can pretty much say whatever, but it's realistically a stat for a heavy load but maybe not what everyone would want to paddle maybe eh? It's one of those measurements that is about as useful as rocker :)

Is there some internet wormhole/singularity in this thread that I need to avoid?

Original post definitely got hit by a threadjack. Please return the threads to the more serious issue of wilderness first aid and medical uses of duct tape.

All other cboating-related subject matters and issues may be started in a separate post. Have fun and have at it.

The cartoon link was meant to drive traffic to one of the artist's sponsor sites, and it worked. People are now talking about a boat the sponsor site makes. Seems like what you're calling a threadjack is actually the real intent of the original thread...

Hi all
Yes that worked i guess, I like to have people view the comic on a subscriber's site, especially when the host is a new one (thanks for joining the bubblestreet crew Andy of Composite creations), it's how i can afford (almost:) to create the comic. Sorry for any confusion.

OK. Anyone on cboats.com who is willing to take a tandem wilderness trip in any canoe now marketed, carrying a total load of 1000 pounds, step up. Show us.

The Explorer looks like a nice pocket tandem. But they bought into the wrong capacity rating standard.

I have expedition paddled an Esquif Prospecteur 17 with probably close to 800lb, including paddlers. It was a 22 day expedition where we carried all of our foodstuffs with us from Day 1. We unloaded the packs for anything over class 1, but we poled up class 1 with them fully loaded on day 6 and 7. It did a lot better than you'd think.
