Hudson River Whitewater Derby - May 4,5 - CBoats.net armada?
Posted: Tue Feb 19, 2013 2:45 am
This is the 56th annual running of the Hudson River Whitewater Derby. Slalom races (different classes for open and decked boats, as well as novice and giant classes) Saturday, downriver (7 miles class II / III) Sunday.
Any interest in a little CBoats get together? I can provide free camping Friday and Saturday nights (rustic, but there is an outhouse and running cold water, plus very likely a propane stove cooktop if I remember to refill the propane:) ).
First weekend in May (4, 5th I believe this year). Yes, I know, same as Cheatfest.
I'd be happy to loan a long boat out to anyone that wants to try either, just let me know. If there is interest we could also have a "tour" of the "museum" and drag out a bunch of relics to paddle. I might even paddle OC instead of C this year for fun (or both on Saturday perhaps).
Slalom on Sat. is old school - reverse gates, and the course is about a mile. Winning times usually 10 min +
Sunday's downriver winning times generally around an hour, plus or minus depending on water level.
It's always a good time with lots of nice folks.
Post here or PM me if you have interest. I'll either be competing, helping run safety / communications, or both.
