Whitewater Canoe Paddle

I just ordered a Blackfly Octane 85. What would be a good paddle for me to buy. I primarly do classes 2 - 4. Thanks

Personally I like the Foxworx Whitewater 3 paddler. Excellent price ($149) for a paddle with a wood shaft, carbon blade, carbon sleeve. Very durable, lots of catch and power. The cons: heavy and stiff--it would be hard on someone with shoulder or elbow problems. Also requires big hands for shaft and grip. It's better for a paddler that likes to take a few precise strokes rather than high frequency strokes.

Paddles I've had include Werner Bandit, Mitchell Premier, Sawyer Sting Ray XD, and several Gala Sport models. I prefer the Foxworx over all of them.

Lots of great paddles out there as well as threads to search through on the subject. One paddle that isn't mentioned often but has really impressed me is Shaggy Designs. I got one this season and I really like it.

I haven't tried the FoxWork Whitewater. I have a Werner Bandit, Zaveral Power Curve, and Mitchell Premier. To tell the truth, I like the feel of the Bandit as well as the more expensive paddles. It is true that the blade edges on the Bandit tend to chip a bit so for very rough use it might not be the best.

get an Aqua-Bound Edge for about $100. That will get you goin for a while. It's a good stick. You can find them at most paddle shops that have canoes, or find em lots of places online.

I had good luck with Echo, and Mitchell. I started with wood, went away from it for a few years and now I'm back to mostly wood sticks for a lot of reasons. This Grey Owl stick isn't bad for the Price Point. It is a little stiff and may be a little "clunky", but otherwise OK. I also really like what I see from Shaggy, but I haven't used one. Peace...
