Just wondering, what is the preferred method for adding anchors to a C1? I need to put a lap belt in.

Assuming plastic, if it is below the waterline add a structure you can bolt to (fence rail conversion etc... see "outfitting" section under "Site" in upper left) If it is above the waterline, drill a hole, stainless bolt with the following:

Stainless bolt head (I like pan head type so I don't nick my knuckles)
stainless washer
rubber washer
<boat plastic>
rubber washer
stainless washer
Anchor for your strap (D-ring on webbing perhaps
stainless washer (if needed)
nut (I like stainless nut with nyloc insert)

Personally not a fan of lap belts due to potential entrapment.

What would make a good anchor for the strap to attach to? I was considering just bolting right through the webbing, but I feel like that could rip too easily. I know I've seen metal plates that have a bolt hole and a slit that could suit webbing, but have no idea where to find one.

Do what Adam said, above or below the waterline.

Bolt through the strap is plenty strong. Double the end over & put a washer on it. It will not likely tear out.

bolt through the webbing is fine. I double the end (though that's probably not required), heat up a trashed phillips screwdriver and melt the hole through the strap. I use 1/4" bolts and 1" fender washers.. has never failed me.

I'll also many times just use the kayak seatbolt hardware for the anchor at the rim.. lot's of times the seat bolt "nut" is a bar with threads for two bolts about 2" apart. and you can just clamp the strap in there. dbl it up. that way is cool because it's adjustable and you don't trash your webbing.. never slipped on me.

I do the same thing but I use a soldering iron to make the holes in the webbing. Works really well. I use the biggest fender washers I can to both protect the plastic of the boat and to prevent the strap from tearing.

Just need to add some wedges to keep the knees out and add some foam to the roof to keep the knees down. Should be good to go!

Knee pads and ankle blocks too, but I'm running out of foam if you can't tell from that Frankenstein looking saddle
