I'm in the works of re outfitting two c1s and adding straps to a L'edge... Trying to find plastic bunckles that won't slip. Any suggestions?

I never had any luck with plastic cam buckles. I tried a few different scuba buckles & webbing. They always slipped on me at the worst moments. So I switched to seatbelt buckles and have been very happy with them.

Cool. How do you tighten the seat belt buckle? One of my buddies has one but the webbing still slips on the tightening side. I'm thinking I will attach a ratchet strap to the buckle. Tighten with the ratchet and have the buckle for quick release only.

Are there any good places online to get them?

You could also get real airplane seatbelt buckles here. They are a little more expensive but still reasonable. Supposedly they are more durable.:

The buckles seem plenty durable. I am planning on ordering another set to replace the plastic cam buckles in my Amp.

You tighten the belt by pulling on the strap that runs through one the latch.

I rarely release the buckles. I just slide out of the straps to exit, then loosen them when I get back in.

I've never had a slipping problem with buckles, but I do a complete loop that takes most of the force out of the buckle connection.

*Note:
I use snap buckles, not cam buckles. The snap buckles generally won't take the stress of a non-looped design without releasing at inopportune times.

Try a stainless steel version. The stainless cam buckle on the Mohawk saddle in my first boat (from 1995, before they started using cheap plastic buckles) never, ever slipped. Instead of the knurling that plastic cam buckles use, it had teeth that actually left little bite marks in the webbing. This looks pretty similar:

(that description is not for the right item though - the buckle is plastic, but the release lever is held closed by a stainless spring)
Sorry, don't have a US based link for them.

The ladder-lock on the plug in end seems to hold pretty well.

The 2" stainless steel scuba buckles have never slipped on me.

I use them with scuba webbing, which has a rougher surface than slick seatbelt webbing. That rough surface helps the buckle grab securely.

I've had great success with the cheap nylon buckles and tubular webbing. I used to get them at REI, but they don't sell them lately. Quick search found something comparable on amazon.

Don't make the buckle do all the work. Pass the webbing through a triglide then back through the buckle instead of having it go straight through it. This will put less than half of the pulling force on the connection. Some is on the other side of the webbing, and a lot of it is taken up by the friction of passing through the triglide. The webbing and the buckle have to work together. These buckles DO NOT work with the flat "seat belt" type webbing. see pic.



In a Detonator I have cams and snaps so I don't have to adjust every time I exit. The snaps take the place of the triglide. I have the two sides installed opposite of each other so that I can clip them together in the middle when I exit.

I only use the Polyester 10K Webbing from Strapworks. The webbing nice and thick so it hasn't ever slipped in any buckle that I've ever used. Another benefit of the webbing is that it won't twist on you.
