Fence rail convert

Post by TonyB »

How is people attaching cross piece to fence rail?
Was gonna try slotting rail, use aluminum flat thru rail, then flush machine scew from bottom. Worried about hardware pushing down on hull.
Should. I foam under fence rail?
Thoughts?

Yea you want foam under the rail. Gives it more hull contact and prevents hardware from wearing.

Harry, what metal did you use for the cross support?

4'x1.25"x1/8" aluminum bolted to factory holes. with 1/2" foam under the rail.

Right on. So its bolted right to the seat bolts? Does it give you any issues not being flush with the hull the whole way?

If could take a picture of how you have it attached I would appreciate it.

Very similar to what I did, and I put up the pictures on my phone but they're to big to post.
Bent alum up to seat bolt and bolted straps and it to hull.
Will glue thin foam to underside(fatigue Matt).
I slotted the rail to put alum thru and bolted to flush inside bottom of rail.
Should work.

I block out with foam... but then I wear the boat pretty darn tight with hip blocks up high on my thighs. Same config on stern too.

sorry dave.E she is packed upta rack on top of 6 other boats right now and can't get a shot inside. but in the third photo i posted you can see the factory bolts i fitted to just above the cockpit rim at the top of the photo. my bar runs under the rail with foam under it all the way.
