Paddler Weight for Esquif Detonator

Post by chuck naill »

Is the 170-190 range too heavy for the Equif Detonator? I tried searching the forum for a similar thread. Thanks in advance. :D

I know two paddlers in that weight range that paddle them and seem to do just fine. I don't think it's until you're over the 200-pound market that you start thinking Nitro.

Not really. I could not keep a Dagger Phantom upright.

Really? I know the phantom is a little better for lighter paddlers but 190lbs isn't THAT big. Maybe the design didn't match your style. Can you try the detonator before you buy it?

No, I think it did not match my build.... I have large old football player shoulders and chest, too much too high...LOL. I was told it was better suited for females who tend to carry their weight lower.

Detonator is more stable and forgiving than Phantom. I paddled Phantoms for several years and loved them, but am lighter than you by about 20 to 30 pounds. And no one has ever said I'm built like a football player.
