Hey everyone,

Trout Unlimited has asked me to come down to Western Carolina University in Cullowhee as a counselor at one of their summer programs from June 27th-July 2nd. I would really like to make a trip out of it and either arrive a week early or stay a week late, so I'm looking for timing suggestions, people to paddle with, a backyard to pitch a tent in, and potentially a boat and paddle to borrow while I'm down there. I'll be flying and need to travel light, and already need to bring some flyfishing gear.

I live in Maine and am a solid class III paddler (maybe comfortably class IV by the time I get down there?) and have a solid safety/rescue background.

Anyone have any leads or interest? I'd be sure to return the favor if you ever end up in Maine!

AWA headquarters are in Cullowhee. Suggest you call their office at 828-586-1930 to find a local paddling contact.

Trout Unlimited and AWA have been bitter opponents over some streams. Maybe it will help to have someone active in both organizations.

The section of the Tuck most favored for trout fishing is usually ignored by paddlers. However, anything you hear about how Trout Unlimited et al would expect me to behave if I passed through would be appreciated. I have run much of the Tuck except for the East and West Forks and the trout fishing section near Cullowhee.
