Hey guys, just want to let you know, if interested - we have a demo Covert in PA that can be picked up whenever (just PM me). Some more boats are being shipped here soon so there should start to be more around to hop in.

Boat is much faster than I'm use to, and wants to track straight across the current. Going to keep trying to get some stuff out there for people to see. I give it a month until I'm fluent with how the boat wants to be handled in most situations. It's certainly fun learning!

Nice! Perhaps we can get it to show up for the TRPC Slip Clinic for folks to try out (McConnells Mills SP - PA) on June 4-5. Usually there is a pretty good pod of OCers there and having some new tech might help folks figure out what new boat best fits their needs as skills evolve!

Can you draw a comparison on how it handles compared to the L'edge lite?

Due to the soft edges, it tracks straighter and faster across current. More forgiving hitting squirrelly currents that your not ready for. It accelerates through boofs, whereas a ledge lands and resets. Ledge is a little bit drier because of bow volume and wants to curve more than the Covert does.

A shipment of Coverts has just set sail for the US. Excited to be in a new boat. Back in black baby!

Real question is how is stacks up to a Maxum

Ha. Lumping the prelude and maxim together.... covert is a better and more much realistic all around boat. Maxim and prelude are both just injuries waiting to happen (opinion formed from experience.)

Price doesn't look especially competitive -- $2650 Cdn vs. $2100 for the L'Edge Lite.

Does anyone know what the boat is actually made of? The vendor's webpage isn't all that helpful because of the proprietary labelling. Is it solid PE, or layered? And if layed, what is it?

Hey Peter, not sure what a L'edge is going for these days but the Complete Paddler is going to have Covert's for $2295. Plastic.

Its PE, the demo has been thoroughly beat up from ALF to now. It is holding up very well, and has taken some on purpose really abusive shots. impressed so far.

All of the Siverbirch canoes appear to be Triple Dump PE.

For any not familiar with this process, it is a variation on standard rotomolding where instead of making a single "dump" of plastic beads into the heated mold, there are three, an initial dump for the outer skin, a 2nd dump that gennerally has some sort of foaming agent to create a thicker web without adding too much weight and a final dump for the inner skin. This is a common process used in rotomolding recreational (non whitewater) canoes from companies like Old Town. I am not aware of this process being used for white water canoes prior to this, though I am sure that someone must have experimented with it along the way and I am not the canoe historian that many of the folks here are.

How would you rate it in comparison to the Option or Octane91? I'm new to canoeing and trying to plan out my plan of attack for the next boat. Currently in a Viper 12, that I haven't spent much time paddling due to real life.
