Good K hulls for C-1 conversion

Hey friends

A few years ago, the Pyranha Burn was considered to be the premier hull for C-1 conversion (creeking and general river-running). The Karnali and the Remix were strong runners-up, along with the Bliss-Stick Mystic.

Brands have come and gone. Wondering which hulls are currently HOT for conversion.

Wondering about the Jackson Heroes and Villains?

THANKS in anticipation!

Rick

Well all the new ZET's make great conversions.

Oh, wait. You don't need to convert them
:D

Thanks for jumping in, Mike. (I kinda hoped you might!)

I'm doing a lot of instruction for the local University Club, and with no appreciable budget, we've been chasing through the local gear-swap pages for older hulls to convert. Sadly, ain't seen too many ZETs floating around.

There's certainly lots to be said for a boat which comes C-1ized right from the factory!

Years ago, when I was only C1ing on occassion, I was using a Wavesport Y. I quite liked it at the time.
I still have one that I use to introduce people.

It's wide and stable, really agile, boofs great, surfs and spins. Slow as all hades. Fairly roomy cockpit, easy convert.
The edge and hard chines are a matter of taste for an experienced paddler. They could probably disturb a novice on boilier, pushy water, but the boat is stable and very predictable as an introductory craft on flat and easy water. Short, light and easy to roll.
I could highly reccomend it as a cheap starter.
Many were made in cross link, so their are still many out there. Though, I think they are so de(under)valued that people rarely advertise them.

If you find one you'll likely get it for $80 or a six of cheap beer.

Good luck Rick. If I was still on the coast you could have my Redline, but that doesn't help you now. Cool to hear you're active in instruction and out there building community as always!

Cheers, Pat.

C-1 hulls are great, go ZER go.

Wavesport EZ made a good conversion. EJ paddled it both as a kayak and C1.

The popular hulls I've seen most lately are:

Flying Squirrel for hucking/big water(and others from this series volume pending)

Pyranha 9R & 9RII for all round and more playful river running - given availability/reasonable price this would be my next choice.

The Riot Magnum was an underrated conversion boat, with a v-like hull it was actually very fast and incredibly precise(as long as you were).

Cheers,
