This is just a little video I put together regarding Neil Rucker's upcoming final year (2014) as a whitewater canoe instructor. For 37 years he has been teaching canoeing in Northern California. Literally thousands of people have been introduced to the sport by Neil. These days, Boy Scouts make up a lot of our client list. In any case, I thought this was an interesting video to post...aside from the guides (who are easy to spot) everyone in this video has between 1 hour and 5 days of instruction max. There is some gunnel grabbing here and there, but I find it amazing how good some of these kids are. Also, any comments you have in regards to the models in our fleet (some have suggested we open a museum) can be directed to the peanut gallery!

Canoeing isn't a sport...its an art. Unfortunately, I am not exactly Michelangelo.

Re: Final Year For Neil Rucker and Canoe West
I had the great pleasure of paddling with Neil one-on-one for two consecutive days a few years ago on his home turf of the Klamath River. What an amazing guy! I learned heaps from him in those two days, and I wish him (and everyone else at Canoe West) many wonderful days of paddling ahead.
Peace Pow and Paddling!

Come on back man!
2014 is the final year for us here at Canoe West...but we'd love to have you back for another trip. Also, hope to see you on the Trinity River at Labor Day Weekend if you can make it!

Re: Final Year For Neil Rucker and Canoe West
Hey Rob-
Thanks for the invite back, I really wish I cold make it back up that way. Been looking at the Pigeon Point run and it looks right up my alley, but unfortunately I'll be out of town for Labor day. Maybe we can connect when I get back. How are flows on the Trinity around the end of September/ beginning of October?
BTW- your grand-dad is one hades of a paddler and coach, but you knew that already!

Re: Final Year For Neil Rucker and Canoe West
The flows on the Trinity usually stay pretty manageable through October. They try to keep it pretty steady for the salmon. Stay in touch, and let me know! And yeah, I know Neil is the best beginning-intermediate canoe instructor in the country,
. Perhaps if I'm lucky, I'll be half as good someday!
