A tale of two rivers

Post by milkman »

Something that's hard to convey in a video is the difficulty of a continuous class 3 run that doesn't have any big drops. I made this video of a continuous section of the Sandy River http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAWNyqNpqQw but it was quite a challenge to show what was tough about the run. The gradient was 70 fpm, there were rocks to avoid everywhere, as well as some holes. and you constantly had to make sure you where following the main channel or the water would shallow out on you.

I made a video the week before of another continuous class 3 run with a similar gradient but this one had the advantage of having at least one major drop where I could film everyone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zl8Vd2pW-W0&

I think the one thing I learned is that lots of closeups of the action help in continuous water. The big vista views just make it all seem like ripples when it's really a raging obstacle course.

I want to paddle like that boy in the zoom.
Catching every eddy and do those nifty moves
Not quite yet but my 'lude is helping me to get there
