thats looking very dangerous when such big boat is falling down on you - and they are dressed for swimming only...

Bob, That ROCKS! I've had my worst thrashings at the beach, but never like these folks They were really getting pounded. The few good rides were awesome & well deserved

Amazing! I assume that was shot in either Australia or New Zealand. It makes some of the carnage raft video from the UG look like childs play.

"Surf" boats

Hiya Guys,
Those are the old surf rescue boats (whalers were they called?). I have no idea where that was shot, but it could be coastal US, UK, NZ, Australia or anywhere (although some of the boast seem to have US names). I've seen old rescue stations on the coasts of NZ and Scotland.
It used to be that every town on the coats had one or more stations with those boats. If a ship went down in bad weather (or any other situation - swimmer in a rip for example, fisherman washed off the rocks by a wave), those were what the rescuers used to get out and try to pull people out of the water. Those guys had big balls doing that in storm conditions, poor light, etc. and the rescuers were normally putting their lives at risk. Accidents were not uncommon.
These days they've been replaced by inflatables with big motors and the oar boats are mainly used in surf rescue competitions I think.
I like the shot of the oarsman diving overboard just before the wave breaks. I bet he was buying the beers for the crew for a few weeks.
