C1 Squirt footage - Ian Thomson @ JimiCup 2008

Post by the great gonzo »

Some footage I took of Ian Thomson at the 2008 JimiCup in the Ceemweaver, with some original audio comments by Jim Snyder, the boat's designer.

Enjoy!

It's nice to C Ian in a proper boat:)

I need to get him in a Mentor one of these years;)

I'd also like to C Ian in a proper cut for his weight of the Ceemweaver...either he or Paul for that matter.

Their instinctive (at this point) boat control is just amazing to watch

Yes, it would be great to see Ian or Paul in the Mentor.
I am going to get the Ceemwaver cut down by Jim over Easter, I hope Ian shows up at this year's JimiCup again, it would be interesting to see him paddle a Ceemveaver that has a cut closer to what he needs and that has a more secure outfitting.

His boatcontrol (the same is true for Paul) is just unbeliebvable.

That was nice and Jim's comments were classic.

I've watched that video over & over as well as going 'frame by frame' as much as I could w/ the pause button. I've also studied the photos that Scott took of Eli in the Ceemweaver at DRNats. I still cannot figure out how they do cartwheels towards their off-side. I have enough trouble with an on-side rotation. I guess you just have to have the skill set that I lack.

Mike, it's got to be in the genes :o ! I am sure it's some sort of alien mutation thatallows them to throw offside cartwheels at will  .
I've done the same thing as you and am practicing during every pool session and yet, I haven't been able to pull off more than 2-3 ends on the offside, if at all... :-? ... I keep at it though, maybe one day I'll get it...

I must say I've regressed.

When I first got the Groove (and only had the Groove and an Atom) I used to go out in the pond (I lived on a pond in NH at the time...well, technically I lived there, but really I lived out of a suitcase and my girlfriend at the time lived there, though we split rent) every day I was there and cartwheel in both directions, to the point it made little difference. For a while I was better on the OFF SIDE! This was actually pre-Concordia!

Now I"m LESS comfortable in the Groove, and rarely try offside cartwheels. Perhaps this summer I'll try and bring them back...I suspect we'll be spending some time down by the river (where it's a bit cooler...no AC here..).

What's a "pool session"?

The river will come up here next month & stay up through mid June for the stripers. We'll loose the wave, but if they take it all the way up it'll get good for cquirting. I'll work on some stuff then. For now I'm surfing every chance I get.

A pool session is where we Canucks get our paddling fix when it's a tad nippy (that's godawfully cold for you Southerners... ...) outside and all the rivers have a foot of ice on them.

That said, we had a warm spell this week and some hard rain on Thursday, o lots of the local rivers are running.
I am torn between big water running and creeking for tomorrow... :-? ... Heck, maybe I'll do both... 8) ...!

And the Parkhill wave might be in on Monday 8) 8) 8) (flooded out right now...). If it is, I'll take some footage for sure...

I got in the pool w/ the Acrobat right after we moved in here. There's only a small area where the boat doesn't hit bottom. There's real bad sound when the end of the boat hits the diving board :o I couldn't get out of the boat w/o swimming either so I gave up on the pool thing & just go to the river. Luckily we never have ice in the river. The lowest I've ever seen the water temp in the river was 36. Now I just cover the pool in the winter.
