does not having deck plates on have something to do with being able to pull off enders like that?! My gut tells me no, but a lot of those guys dont have em and you mentioned it too so... whats the dealio?

The deck plates were removed to create a nice scoop for pulling enders, correct? Makes enough sense to me. Maybe some testing is in order, once it gets a little warmer, of course. :P

if asking about the white with wood gunwhales, that was Dale Johnson - who indeed won that year.
if the white with Swatch, that was Claude Stahel , and there were also a couple other white Mohawks
BTW that was EJ in the golden R-lite Mohawk

as for the sans-deck-plates on the wood trimmed boat - Dale's,...

there's was not really a good way (except steaming) of putting anything else on, but the original plastic. ...
not sure about the effect (pro-or-con)

about 10lbs difference.
but it feels like more.
My first Viper had aluminium and vinyl and my current one is white ash (I believe) and I will NEVER GO BACK.
Plus the wood is Beautiful. :D
