Here's some of the class III-IV rivers we paddle around Vancouver, BC....
One is mine, the others are a friend's that I just found on You Tube (thanks Erik). Nothing fancy production wise (I still need to learn to edit the .mov files), just short vids that show some canoes on some rivers from these parts...
Upper Mamquam River, near Squamish, 1hr north of Vanc

Chehalis River, 1.5 hrs east of Vanc, north of Fraser river

Chilliwack canyon run, 1.5 hrs east of Vanc, one of many runs on the very popular Chilliwack - note "very popular" is relative, esepially considering the raft parades and kayak clutter that I've seen out east, typically you won't see anybody else on most of these runs

Capilano, class III canyon right across from downtown Vancouver

And the Lower Seymour - the local class II learning/practice grounds, very popular for winter play

Nice footage, Pat! Fun to see Heather paddling on her own turf. Looks like some excellent runs with fun features.
What camera are you using? The clips looked good.
BTW, I think you have a wrong link for the Capilano run. It's the same clip as the one you have for Chilliwack. This is Capilano:

Hi Milkman,
Heather's going to be famous - the people without cameras get to be in everyone pictures and videos! Pretty similar riers to you posted recently, continuous class III, but no real glory drops.
Thanks, I corrected the link for the Cap. I use a little Pentax Optio W30, which I picked up for $150 and just keep in my PFD pocket. It's better than not taking any pictures or video, which is what I was doing before. I've barely looked at the manual, so I'm sure I could be making better use of the camera.
The camera shoots in Quicktime (.mov files), what was your advice again for free software to do the very basics of video editing, like shortening videos and maybe adding a few different videos into a single file?
Most of those videos are my friends Erik's, not sure what camera he's using.
Thanks, Pat.

If you're using a Mac, iMovie is the way to go.
If you're using a PC, check out Windows Movie Maker, which should already be on your PC. The one caveat is that earlier versions of Movie Maker don't support .MOV (Quicktime) files. There are ways to get these older versions to do it. With a little research, you could find out how to download and install the necessary codec. Another option might be to download the latest version. As I understand it, this new version (http://download.live.com/moviemaker) is for Vista and Windows 7 and enables importing and editing .MOV files. I opened up the version of Movie Maker on my Vista Ultimate PC and tried to import a .MOV file and received a message that I needed to install a codec for the file.

The program I use is CyberLink PowerDirector 8.0. You can get the deluxe version for $56 from Amazon. I find it easy to use and reliable, but if Movie Maker will work for you, it might be best to try that first.

I'm on Windows XP. MovieMaker won't recognize (open or import the .MOV files). I'll look into further, thanks.
I'll make sure I've got the leatest MovieMaker update for XP, and my laptop is on Vista, so I could try that too.
Pat.

Check out this video for how to import mov files into Movie Maker:

It's worth a try.
The other thing to do is to get a conversion program like AVS Video Converter and convert the files to a different format. I like this solution less because it might degrade the original file--though I don't know that for a fact.

I just tried the advice in my post above and it didn't work at all for me. Yet I saw one other guy on YouTube demonstrate the same thing. I'm not sure how they're able to do that since everything I read on the web says that Movie Maker will not open .MOV files and the only way to use .MOV files is to convert them.
My advice wouild be to either find a converter you like that's easy to use and experiment to find which conversion format (wmv or avi or mpeg) does the best job of retaining the original quality of the video, OR buy a video editing program that can handle MOV.
One editor that I used to use and thought was very good was AVS Video Editor. I think I paid $39 for it, but looking at the site it looks like it might be free if you don't want support or upgrades. See: http://www.avs4you.com/AVS-Video-Editor.aspx
