John Day River (Oregon)

Post by milkman »

This is a homage to a great Central Oregon river. Not so much for the whitewater (it's mainly class II), but for the classic Western scenery.

Four days for a casual trip with lots of hiking and swimming, three days if you want to rush it. It's 69 miles. Lots of great camping spots. Used to be no permit, but they're changing that this year. Best times to canoe it are from April through June. The last day can sometimes be a bear if the winds kick up.
