BC Kootenay paddlers?
I'm around Nelson for the spring, again.
Are there any other singlebladers in the west kootenay or even east kootenay?
There's a great kayak community (I paddle with regularily), but I can't figure out why no canoes. Some fantastic canoe runs and play features around here. A nice progression of challenge from class I to III/IV, then a bit of a gap as the creeks jump to steep, silly and full of wood.
I'm almost ready to put the skis away!

Try x-posting on a more local forum and you may get some leads, here's PaddleNet where you'll find many Vancouver-based canoeists:

I can think of a few folks in Nelson (Eric & Joel), Cranbrook (Chris & Julie) and Kimberly (Roger & Allyson), and I think there's some sort of canoe club that leads a mid- or late-summer canoe tour of some rivers, but unfortunatley I've never been able to make it out there myself.

Thanks Pat,
I've paddled with Eric and Joel, but haven't seen them around in years. I think Joel's been off world travel'n and educating.
I'll track down Roger and Allyson (sold her a Wheelboy) if I get that way. Sounds like there is more of a ww canoe community on the east side.
There is the Columbia Canoe Club around here, but it's focus is flatter water.

When are you arriving? We paddled together on the Kan a couple of years ago and i live in Sundre, but always up for a road trip.
We'll be on the Highwood sometime around the middle of May,you should try to make it out as it's an excellent run and there's else plenty to run around here for a few days to make it worthwhile.
I'll let you know as things thaw out a bit more, anything running out in the Koots yet?I'm sure the Elk is flowing...

That wasn't carnage,watch this...
Never been to the Kootenays?
Just in case you have never been to the Kootenays.
Starting down the Lower White River, a 6+ hour run in wilderness that you will never see another
paddle group on. Lots of play, lots of Rockies, lots crystal clear water.

Paddling is easy, organizing shuttles is hard.
Not misplacing all your crap in somebody else's car seems to be even harder

Re: BC Kootenay paddlers?
Paul, I do remember that fun, but chilly day. You're on my "if I ever get to Alberta" list.
I have a Nelson place, where I've been most the winter, hoping I can stick around til June.
I'll be in Fernie start of May. Bull?, Elk? and could be interested in the Highwood.
I hope to make Pincherfest again (was the only solo boat last year), we had an amazing day on the falls section of the Oldman.
It's been years since I've paddled the east kootenays and do hope to get back there.
The west kootenays have become my second home, I've spent a number of springs here. I can gloat about getting in half a season, while Yukon and canotrouge are still scraping their windshields.
The season's begun in the west kootenays! Lower Salmo, Slocan, Trail Wave.
Always a couch for both old and new friends.

Hi YTcanoe, Yeah, Joel is on Vancouver Island, some of us around here are trying to talk him into giving some C-1 lessons.
Isn't Scott Rookes in Nelson? He must know a crew. Or maybe you're Scott?
Canotrouge, give my regards to the "Gums of Worry" (Jaws of Death on the Takhini).
Pat.
