No, don't get a Huck, there are much better boats out there. I paddled one for about a year and like it till I got my Blunt. There's no going back. The Huck is slow and corky, the dam thing's a plug. Get a Blunt, Skreem, Rockit, Cascade, or maybe even a Gradient. Speed is yer friend, thus length is yer friend. Just my drunken opinion.

:o if you want to do a conversion check out the **new** Robson Sportster and Prodigy (*Armerlite version). I like the lines on this boat a lot... check it out at http://www.robsonusa.com

Hi all,

I am about to buy a big Nomad. Hope to have it before Christmas cause my Blunt is really falling apart. Got another crack today...

Anyways, I'll let you know how the conversion goes.

Cheers, Jan

Kanu,
What are you thinking at this point after all this discussion :-? ? Are you willing to consider a creek boat designed as a C1, rather than a conversion?

I've been away from the computer for a while since I posted my original note and Im trying to catch up with it all. Sorry everybody. Thanks for all the good feedback.

I probably wont buy a C1 specific creek boat both because of availability and cost. Ill have to use a conversion and Im still deciding which one. I like the sound of the Blunt but havent seen any for sale here in Western Canada.

Jan, Id like to hear about your Nomad conversion. Youll get to paddle it long before I do since youre on the rainy side of the Rockies and Im in snowy Alberta.

What does anyone think of the H3 as a creek boat? Ive seen some of those for sale. Also, what about the CFS? Ive seen those too.

Predictable == Nomad 8.5

Post by Jan_dettmer »

Howdy all,

I took the Nomad down Harris Creek, a local steep creek that is 4+ish low volume (8 cms maybe?).
Holy §&$/"&!!!! This is my new best friend on the steeps. It is the definition of predictable. Hole punching machine. Boofs still easy. Resurfaces super nice. It is so stable. Way more stable than the Blunt (and I thought it does not get much more).
It is very fast. I mean VERY fast. Does not turn as quick as the Blunt. I found myself catching micro eddies since I could not make hard offside turns in the middle of a drop sometimes. I gues that will just need some getting used to.

I love it. However, It was only one run so far. Tomorrow I leave on a 5 day trip where we do some creeking up island. After that I'll know more.

Cheers, Jan
