I can't paddle a river locally anymore without kuyakers yelling at me 'No pumps!"... It's good fun, whether you use them or not.

this thread shows the power of boards vs FB in general. You`ll never find such a concentrated discusssion on FB.

fez - i gotta disagree with you on that one - you find concentrated conversations on a much larger scale on facebook all over the place. actually i think the only reason this thread had so many post, and so many views so quickly... was because of FB. :o

You think so ? A a real discussion with different views, with pro and contra about pumps vs no pumps - where do you find that on FB ? On GDI ? Haven`t seen it being discussed there.

I like the "two faces" of the internet but also see also the differences. (generally speaking, without judgement)
FB: thousands of impressions about a field of interest, no controversial debates or deeper insights on this themes < vs > internetboards: different views & discussions about themes

(sorry folks for threadhijacking)

You do get some interesting conversations on FB, but it's rarer and the site is not really set up for having an in-depth discussion, a long FB comment thread is almost unreadable.

The real trouble with FB is that it's a tool for social interaction and we tend to bias social interaction towards people we find agreeable, so interactions become clouded by the "Spiral of Silence" and "False-Consensus Effect" biases... The same thing happens with internet fora which are very small or have an overwhelming and homogenous majority, but not quite so easily.

I think you re over estimating the depth of this thread.

The pros are obvious- you don't have to dump you boat.
The cons are obvious- you look like wuss and there s some maintenance

Plus, at least half the posts are meant to be a joke.
