Agree on the Merganser but they are really really difficult to find. If you own one then I only know of two.

I am sure Clipper still has the mold. Mine is 20 years old and the day it was going to be on the water for the first time I endered my truck on top of it over a 100ft embankment. Paddled it the next day

A Whitesell Piranha or Clipper Challenger would make a fine whitewater tripping canoe.

I think the Clipper Merganser is much better Tandem than a Tandem Whitesell.

I paddled a Merganser for years (did you count mine, Einar?) It needed a lotta work, so I just sold it a few weeks ago, in a quiver-clearing frenzy. I'll prob'ly regret that.

Too many differences to compare the two boats -- the Merganser's a foot longer, and much wider. Insanely stable, and incredibly surfable. And much more capability as a tripper. An all-time great hull!

But, jus' sayin' -- the Piranha makes for a very playable tandem boat. It's just too good to sawzall up and haul to the dump. May Nolan Whitesell's contributions long endure -- ON the water.

(My buddies told me there was no way we could bounce a composite tandem boat over Last Drop without damaging it. Hah!)
