Before ABS, paddlers were running rivers on the weekend and make repairs all week to their fiberglass boats.
I am interested in what the posters mean about welding. Is this the process you use? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HvV9a3lEe2g" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I think you bought a welder (previous thread)
Did that work out, were you happy with the buying and doing, speaking amateur to amateur.
I did buy a welder, but speaking "amateur to amateur," I actually paid a professional to do two of the cracked boats because I didn't have the time or space to practice welding this winter. I still have two more cracked boats and hope to perfect my skills in the dark arts of plastic welding this summer.
BTW, the professional did a bomber job. He works at Alder Creek and is a member of our club (LCCC). The cost was just $55 per boat.
Good gosh folks on here like to talk! The short answer is all L'Edges have cracking issues, the 2010s were the worst and they have been getting better since then. If you want a boat that is really hard to crack, GET A BLACKFLY! I personally like the L'Edge design better than the Option but I am welding my 2011 L'Edge crack #2 as we speak.
In all this discussion, I've never heard anyone bring up the effect of cold temperatures on plastic. In my experience, plastics become more brittle at lower temperatures. Have folks had more failures at colder temps? Or no? Just curious. Thanks-M-
