DIY Break down paddle

Post by rainfoot »

This may have already been covered, if so I apologize--I did a search but came up empty.

I would like to take an old Mohawk aluminum shaft paddle and convert it into a 2-pc. breakdown. This must have been done already... Can anyone walk me through the process?? Thanks in advance.

Well, there's this: http://wheelsandwater.blogspot.com/2011 ... addle.html

You could take those instructions and improvise.

I believe, though, that the current manufacturer of Mohawk paddles makes T-grip adapters to convert a 2-piece kayak paddle into 2 canoe paddles. With one of those, you might get away with cutting down the paddle and drilling one hole.

I made a DIY break down paddle.
See my published article at

BTW, I now use AquaBound Edge canoe paddles, as they are available in 2 piece and 3 piece break down paddles. I have both styles and really like them. It's a good paddle at a good price.

rainfoot,

Pakboats sells a break-down (2 piece) Mohawk. You might be able to have a look at one to see how it was done.

Good luck with your project and keep us posted!
