sleek as C1

Anyone converted one? I was thinking it would be a good ocean surfing C1...

My Viper just wants to purl on ocean waves and my Atom is too slow.

I saw a number of them "back in the day" but would think there are better boats to convert - the one I tried was rather tippy. If you are thinking of a Sleek, you must want something longer than the current crop of short play boats - maybe a Necky Jive or Rip? Anything too short (and slow) is tough for me to get out through the surf...

I think the Sleek will be too roly-poly as a c-1. I also doubt that it will be any faster than the Atom.

on ocean waves, I personally just like really hard edges (and fins) to carve and a fast planning hull.
A lot of planing speed does not need a long boat.
You just need enough planning surface.

I like newer school designs for that.
Maybe get a really agressively carving surf kayak and convert it. Those seem to be very fast.
They also have the bow kick to keep the bow
from diving. I would love to convert a surfyak.

Speaking of the Surfyak, last year I e-mailed Ralph Beer about a C-1 Surfyak. He responded that with his video you get instructions to build the basic kayak. You can modify the design however you see fit & there would be no reason that you could not build it as a C-1. I would think that a simple cockpit modification should do it.

I have a buddy who built a Surfyak as a kayak. He said that the recomended wood (luan) was a pain to work with. Okoume would be a much better (& more expensive) way to go.

Ralph's plan is for a simple, inexpensive surfing boat that most folks can build. Seems like he succeeded.
