Northwest Kanu Fest 2018

Post by Cheeks »

Attention western paddlers!

The Northwest Kanu Fest is back, and bigger than ever! Last year, over 40 canoeists and kayakers descended on the Methow Valley in central Washington for an awesome weekend of whitewater, camaraderie, and tacos! Don't miss out on the fun!

https://www.facebook.com/events/179346096023021

When: June 29 - July 4
Where: Methow Valley (campground most likely Loup Loup but will be confirmed soon)
Who: Open to everyone, regardless of watercraft and skill level. Difficulty of runs vary from Class I-II to big water Class III to creeky technical Class IV and everything in between.

Blackfly Canoes will be on hand with free demos and tacos. Boat delivery TBD.

Can't wait to see you there!

Bonus info: Here is the vid from last year's fest. NWKanu Fest starts at about 1:40 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ITYWqW662s&t=317s

Chris, thanks for another year of putting this together. I'm working on putting together a Portland contingent to come up again this year.

Good news for water levels at the Kanu Fest this year: The Washington state Department of Ecology, however, says this has been a good winter for that state’s mountain snowpack, which is 119 percent of normal.

I too have been keeping an eye on the snowpack, and it looks great! If I'm reading it right, there's more snow this year than there was last year, correct?

Levels were awesome last year, and the locals told us that getting on the Twisp isn't a certainty in July. More water would clean up the Chuwach significantly.

What a fantastic time we had at last year's Fest!! Seattle's Paddle Trails Canoe Club did a superb job leading trips, and it was a rush to see paddlers from Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia all rocking together! For those who frequent Facebook, here's the official event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/179346096023021/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. See you on the Methow!

This is awesome, unfortunately I've already got a trip to the Payettes in Idaho in mid July then heading to squirt boat in Oregon afterwards. Miss the Westfest events we used to do!
