New Prototype boat from Shaggy Designs

Post by Gwyn »

Hi,
It has been a while, but we are again in the process of designing another boat! This time a slalom C1 for the larger paddler. More details at
http://shaggydesigns.com/index.htm

We have a prototype up on the Ottawa, and it has been great fun so far. We are welcoming anyone to get in touch and come for a test drive. We would like all the feedback that anyone can give us. Drop us a line at info@shaggydesigns.com.

This is great news! I still love my Sith, but it would be neat to have a fast Shaggy.

Did you start from Tom Hewitt's old design or the Hype/Scream/Lizard? Just looking at the seam line, that's what speaks out.

Both of those are actually the same original mold, but Benn worked with Tom to get more rocker and a narrower bow on the two he made.

Looks nice, North American Slalom boats would be great to have again. Also looks like you've done a nice job getting depth around the cockpit, and good front end volume just ahead of the paddler which is what the scream/lizard lacked for me.

Currently paddling a Demon XXL @ 92kg for reference.

Cheers,
race boats are so fast, i bet its in the speed wing.

We looked at a variety of modern slalom boats from several manufacturers to get an idea of what we would do to achieve our goals - it is not based on any particular boat.
It is still a work in progress, and that seamline is probably going to be modified slightly in the next prototype, getting a bit lower and slightly more rounded in the area in front of the paddler.

Nice, the one thing that I've always been surprised about with Slafkovsky's boats - Hype, Lizard/Scream was how flat they are ahead of the paddler. especially for a larger person, it would be fun to have more volume focused around the cockpit.

Do you have any profile pictures of the boat out of the water?

Very cool
