Gluing Minicell to Royalex

Post by harry56 »

Picked up my first boat and need to re-glue the saddle to the Royalex hull. Any suggestions on glue/adhesive to use?

Also, i may need to move the kneepads which are already glued - i'm considerably shorter than the previous owner. Any recommendations on removing them gently?

Thanks!

Weldwood Contact Cement in the red can is the best for gluing minicel to the deck. A 4" putty knife with corners rounded off with a file is one tool that I've used to lift installed minicel. I've seen some plastic scrapers that might work.
Removing minicel if you want to re-use the piece is tedious because you have to do it all carefully so you don't tear it.

You can also use a heat gun - CAREFULLY

I would keep the heat on low and keep your heat gun moving.

You do not want to delaminate the Royalex
