What glass boat design(s) do you like

Post by chuck naill »

My plan is to get a glass boat. I want to play around with slalom paddling, but also use it as a river runner too. :D

What designs have you had experiance with and from that experiance what are your recommendations? :)

THanks,

Hi, "mystery" Chuck. That's really awesome you want to get a glass boat. As far what will fit your interests (slalom and play), I would recommend either a Viper (I have one) or a full-length Acrobat. Their length retains SOME of the speed you get out of a slalom boat and still gives you great joy to paddle and play in.

What boats?

Post by David Good »

What squirt boat do you have? I tried a Mastercut Acrobat (cut for about 160lbs, thanks to Sir Adam) at the Armada and it was really cool, so I'm seriously considering buying one. If I can find one for the right price

Thanks,

It is an Arcobat, and it really belong to Marshel Fox I'd have to check with him to more details, I can bring it to the Ocoee about anyweekend there isn't anything else around here better running.

If you're relatively light, see if Class V is laying up the MiniMax. I paddled one briefly and liked it. If you're heavier, check out the Millbrook Wide Ride to the left on C1 Rec Boats. Mine is spunkier than expected; not surprising, as Kaz is a racer and would not offer a slug. (Except for his old Czech boat, that is.)

Acrobat?

Post by David Good »

Louie,

Have you gotten any information on the Arcobat that belongs to Marshel Fox. I may still be interested, if the price/cut is right (and if I can convince my wife that I NEED another boat...)

Dave
Keep an eye open for a Viper as well (along with everyone else) since its a good big water river runner (and of squirt design).
As for the Acrobat (which I like) I'm holding out untill the Mavern comes out - there are possibilities in that design!
Any race boat can be fun too - it's just a different! 8)
Bottom line what ever you get I think you'll enjoy!

Who makes the Acrobat and Viper? Is Wave Sport still in business? I look on the PC Composites sites and only saw Kayaks listed.

Thanks

Viper and Acrobat

Post by Sir Adam »

Both the Viper and Acrobat there were made by New Wave are now made by PS Composites-just contact them for current prices, etc.... I've asked Mary K a few times over the past few years to list the CBoats on the site too, but they never seem to have made it from the paper catalogue they used to have to the internet.
Keep the C!

Depends on what you weigh. I'm 190 & love my full cut Viper for attaining & big water like the Lower Gauley. It's fast, stable & punches big holes effortlessly. I can stern squirt it on flatwater, but the bow has enough volume to keep it at or near the surface. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Viper fits the new, shorter C-1 specs for slalom. It's wider than pure slalom designs, so probably a little slower than a race boat.

I also have a 1/2" cut Acrobat. It's not as fast as the Viper, but still way faster than my converted Big EZ. I have to pay attention to the bow to keep it from diving. I can't lean forward on my strokes if I want to keep the boat level either :-? It's big fun on eddylines or flatwater.

Yes

Bill,

I know a couple of people who know these boats and while I am at the upper end of the weight limits, the price allowed me to get something that would have otherwise costs me well over $2000 plus shipping ans I just can't justify that.

It weill be interesting.

THanks,

Chuck
