Cascade repair/ skirt needed
I have the option of getting a free cascade. However, the spray skirt lip is damaged. The cockpit rim has a 3 inch tear in the "groove". If you slightly pull up on the rim you can see it. I think it needs to be drilled at each end (to stop it from spreading) than welded together. Any suggestions. Can cascades be welded? Does anyone know how. I'm located in lexington ky, but travel to asheville nc very often. I could use some help with this one. As if I'm not needy enough, I'll eventually need a spray skirt for this thing also.
Thanks,
Adam Trunnell

Cascade/Welding
I bought the Cascade from Mark in VA, and he DOES plastic welding. The seem did look like it was welded, but until recently I thought they were all welded. The history on the boat I understood was he bought the boat as a spare and it was used 10 times, but decided a spare was not needed.
He told me he repaired a green plastic fishing/duck hunting boat and the owner said he couldn't even tell where it was done- I'll check with Mark and find out, and see if he minds me posting his #.

Cascades can be welded. Some of us have welders (Adam, myself, etc.) It does not take long and works well. You can do this in a couple hours.
Make sure to embedded stainless surgical mesh in the spot to make it stronger.
What color is the boat?
If you have more questions PM me.
Good Luck!

The Cascade came in two flavors, linear and cross-linked. The cross-linked boats were tougher (and more expensive) but couldn't be welded while the linear ones could be welded. It is my understanding that the solid color Cascades were of linear construction and the multi colored ones were of cross-link construction. At least this is what I was told by the dealer when I bought mine many years ago.

There was an outfit out west, I think, maybe "Jack's Plastic Welding" that said that crosslink could be welded. I think they even had instructions on their web page, I remember that there was more prep and that it was harder to do. Let me do a googling...

Welding cross link
There's also a fellow in Whitehaven, PA that can weld cross link...I don't recall his name, but I found him via one of the outfitters there....
Keep the C!

Welding
I spoke to Mark last night, thanks for the quick reply, and he confirmed the boat was never repaired. He did have to weld HIS cascade that he kept.
Mark is in Christianburg, VA
To contact him about welding please email him @:

cascade repair
Thanks for the replies. It's black with an orange pattern. I guess that would make it cross link. Since it's a free boat I'm willing to give it a try.

Oh, and my Cascade was multicolor and was *linear* - bought it new and it had a sticker to that effect.
