Craig,
Are you saying you post on boatertalk before you post here at cboats??? Craig, Craig . . .
Ouch, that aint a good place to injure. Scary as it is though, honestly this sounds like a freak thing. There's probably some protection out there, but do you really want to be wearing like a Darth Vader helmet covering like your whole neck everytime you go down for some cheese curds and playboating at the local spot?
Although then at least you could definitely mention to luke hopkins how you are his father.

Whallop!!!!.....
Whallop!!!!.....is a medical term that means to take direct hit that results in intense pain and discomfort.
Seriously, get it checked out if not better in a day or so. Better to get it taken care of than deal with something long term.
Hope all turns out well!!!!!

Craig, Kevin England makes a PFD that has that kind of protection in it. It has 10mm Eva with plastic armour on the upper spine and shoulders.
Check it out at:

Fudge, I broke my back once and have disc trouble since then. It sucks...

A-bird----Lots of creek freaks on BT... lot's of reps, manufacturers and retailers watch the board for new ideas, and the like. Trust me I don't like the thought of even more crap to lose at the take out. With the number of people running gnarly stuff these days and after what happened to me I wouldn't be opposed to something covering my back a bit... especially when on the steep stuff where there is shallow ledges or rocks.
Jan-- Ouch!...... and I know you meant "fudge ".... right?
