I've cut out the bad stuff & sanded down the surrounding area. I need advice on laying down my patch over the seam. It's a real sharp angle & I'm afraid that the glass will not want to lay down properly. Any ideas?
Make sure you lay it on the bias, put saran-wrap (or that other neat stuff you used in your cockpit) over it and TAPE it to the boat...therefore make sure the material (saran or other) is big enough to allow the tape NOT to come in contact with resin...
You'll find wetted out cloth *almost* holds the correct shape...the saran and tape are really just there to remind it of that fact:)
An alternative to saran wrap that I like better, because it's heavier weight, is garbage bag liner. Use the white kitchen bags so you can still see through it (to a certain extent). Once you put down the plastic (saran or otherwise), make sure to use your fingers to work any air bubbles out of the layup to the edge of the resined area. The plastic should be stretched tight by the tape to keep the repair smooth and eliminate (or signficantly reduce) the need for sanding afterwards.
