Shipping boats X-Country?

Anyone know much about shipping boats across the country? I'm selling a tandem canoe and trying to figure out how to get it from CO to virginia

BoaterTalk has a "Shipping" FAQ (http://boatertalk.com/faq.php) with info about some of the major, boat friendly shippers. There is a reference to FreightQuote (www.freightquote.com) - they are a broker and can quote you various shippers. You may need to "crate" the boat in some form - this may be as simple as plastic wrap (as used to secure items to pallets) and card board. For a tandem canoe, expect to pay over $100

You might try Amtrak, too.

Ideally you'd find a boater going between the two locations...

I used pilot air freight to ship a boat 2weeks ago, I dropped it off in denver on thursday and they had it in Philadelphia by Mon morning for $75. pretty quick and painless. If you know the dimensions they can give you a quote @ 303-371-4334.

Size does Matter....

sadly; I just got a bid on a 45 Lb. boat that (because of its 15 foot length) has a "Dimensional Weight" of 850 Lbs.!! $325 to ship it from Denver to L.A.. This is from one of the well known shippers; all of them seem to use this formula now.
