Wausau Whitewater is proud to announce that John will be our coach for this years open canoe slalom training camp. John is the most accomplished open canoe slalom paddler around as well as a boat builder and designer. The dates of the camp will be June 22-23 and will coordinate with our annual Wausau Whitewater Slalom Weekend June 24-25. The fee for the camp will be $100 for two days and includes lunches. John will be focusing on slalom techniques that you can and should also apply to your river running and general paddling skills. Proper stroke technique, gate entry and exit and maintaing your forward momentum will be the key areas we plan to emphasize. Hope to see you here in Wausau!

I'm going to come to the clinic and pepper John with technical questions. I'll be standing on shore, chucking cheese curds, and flinging off queries: "What if I wanted to outfit my boat with Flux Capacitor?" or "Has anyone heard of a CuFly?" or "What if I wanted to paint my gunnels?" My guess is that I'll probably get thrown out of Wausau by smecurity guard Smerda.

I'd love to. However, I have this math problem. Let's Say Johnny has 5 apples. He has 4 children holding a bucket each. His wife is holding a bucket. Johnny has a bucket of his own. The buckets are blue.Craig Smerda wrote:You'll have to come find out Mr Broam
Substitute :
time (in vacation days) for apples
c for the speed of light
d for the density of liquid water
And put all of the buckets on a train travelling east from San Francisco at 60 MPH into a 20 MPH head wind with a light rain.
The question is : How much apple sauce goes in each bucket and how long before the kids eat it all?
You have 30 seconds to solve this problem.
I am planning on making it to the OC Nats, despite the applesauce all over the floor. Unfortunately it will be after school has started and I mgith not be able to bring my top two candidates for bow paddlers.

ha, no way, Smerda. Although we haven't raced in a few years. Hopefully one day. I was just happy to get ahead of Dana this Fall. I like to think I'm getting faster. I read that Kaz got third in OC-1 in the Nationals on the West River in 1985 (the winner being Dave Paton), which was (according to his website) nine years after Kaz began paddling. I'm six years into it, and figure I too am getting a little faster here and there - although I might be fooling myself!
