boat recomendations

Post by JSR »

Any oc recomendations for for a middle fork salmon(Idaho, in Aug) trip? There will be raft support (i.e. I don't need to carry gear), the trip will be late summer (probably between 900-1300 cfs) and I had planned on paddleing a prelulde but I am finding it really squirrly and short...maybe that will dissapear with practice. For now I was wondering what folks had used in the past.

If you have ran the middle fork in a canoe, what did you use, how did it go and what was the river level?

Middle Fork

Ran it several years ago in a Mohawk Shaman. Level was pretty low about 1.9. Lots of paddling (as in slow moving water) to do at that level so a faster boat was nice. With higher water a short boat may work out well but at the level I was at I would not want anyting less than say an Ocoee and even then I might want for a faster boat. Remember you need to cover about 20+ miles of river in a day so think river runner.
