Short Jefe Review

Post by CosmikDebris »

So I've only paddled the Jefe on Big Creek a couple times and the Green yesterday. I'm about 155lbs, definatly on the low side for this boat I believe.
This thing just rides on top of the water. It floats over wierd currents and the bow helps keep you above the water considerably better than the Blunt, which was a bit of a submarine. The boat is incredibly stable, initial stablility is a little low, but secondary is legendary!
The cockpit it huge and leaves lots of room, it would be great for big guys. In the Blunt, my thighs were pressed against the cockpit rim, but in the Jefe I have probably at least 4 inches of extra room.
It's not very fast, however it accelerates fairly well with a couple paddle strokes. It does turn really easy, which could be either a benefit or a disaster, I don't know which yet. Seems to hold a line well in a rapid as long as you keep paddling, but will spin out if you aren't on top of it.
Overall, I love this boat, I think it is going to help my boating progress just because of the confidence it inspires. I would say it is one of the better C1 conversion creekers I've paddled, although I havn't tried the Nomad and have heard good things about it. The Jefe is definatly smaller than the big nomad, which just seems huge to me. If you're ever in Western North Carolina and want to try it out, let me know.

Hey Will,

I'd love to try it- I have a Micro and Solo if you want to give them a whirl- though my creeking tops at Wilson. I'd love to try some new runs though.
