Does Pyranha still make canoes?

Decked Canoes, Open Canoes, as long as they're canoes!

Does Pyranha still make canoes?

Post by Dooleyoc-1 »

I'm thinking about stocking up on Preludes and Spanish Flys now that all companies seem to have quit making open boats.

I would like to support esquif but I prefer the prelude and spanish fly to any of their designs. This is unfortunate becasue the open boat community is going to need to start purchasing their boats in mass quantities since they are the only company left after the death of Dagger, Mad River and Mohawk.

Dooley,

If you go to pyranha.com, click on whitewater range (on left), river running, prelude.

The fact that they still have in on their website, tells me they still make it.

I sold mine to your father. It's probably one that you're beating up now. I was wondering what you and or your dad thought about my outfitting.

We liked your outfitting. I pretty much left it as was (I just had to carve some foam out of the knee holes to get all the way in the boat).

Unfortunately that boat is about ready for the salvage yard. I knocked a hole in it on Big Creek about a month ago and then it turned into a huge hole when I hit a rock with the boat full of water on the Green a couple of weeks later. I may use some Marine guk to patch it up for a few more trips but I'm in need of another Prelude.

Was at an event here in the UK last week, and pyranha had a stand there with a prelude on it so they are definately still making them. Impressive to manage to put a hole in one, they have always seemed pretty bomb proof to me.
I'm hoping that the Robson homes comes down in price soon, as that is the boat I would like to be trying.

I am also interested paddling the Prelude. I wish there was a demo in Colorado. Is there a Demo in Colorado?

Canoes in the West Ha!! No Demo's! I have heard wishfull thinking of Alpine Quest getting 1 next season as a demo, maybe, phat chance.

Just a couple in the warehouse back east, what I heard from the rep.

I asked about 1 at the CKS paddle fest, all laughs!!!, " Na bra ain't got one of those hur."

To the best of my knowledge, Pyranha is still making canoes, but not very are being brought into the US (demand for the kayaks is very high right now, and a Prelude would take up the space of several Burns in a container.....) I BELIEVE, (but I'm not sure) that there are still some Preludes in the Asheville warehouse, but there may not be any Spanish flys. You MIGHT be able to special order one and have it shipped over from the UK- your best bet is to call the US office (828.254.1101) and ask.
