- The first race starts at 8:00 a.m.; the second race starts at 10:30 a.m..
- I would like safety boaters to meet at the Tredegar boat ramp at 7:00 a.m. for a review of the course and instructions.
- Standard safety gear is recommended (pfd, helmet, throw rope); long boats with volume is encouraged (this is not the time to try out that new Maven or Wheelboy
).- Safety boaters insure the swimmers stay on the course and 'round all the turn buoys; you will also provide a rest station to swimmers who need to get their breath back and get reoriented--this is where you encourage them to relax, take their time, and finish the swim so they can complete the whole race.
- After the race, boaters help disassemble the swim course (bring in all the buoys) and be done by 11:30 at the latest.
- Perks include an Xterra volunteer t-shirt, lunch, cold beverages (water and sports drinks). Plus, you will have time to run rapids on the James if you like.

P.S. There will also be a downriver boater-cross style race on the James that day starting at 1:00. I may be doing it, so put it in your plans if you want to race. Here is the link:
